Good evening, this is John McKown, Wirt County Schools superintendent. In light of recent social media post that are circulating threatening schools in West Virginia I am calling to let parents, students, and staff members know that we are aware of this and are in contact with local and state law enforcement concerning these posts. At this time, there has not been a direct threat to Wirt County Schools. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority and every threat is taken seriously and fully investigated.
Thank you to the parents that have reported these posts to us. Please continue to do so if you see something concerning. We are working with law enforcement to have an increases police presence at school tomorrow and in the days that follow until the source of these posts is found and dealt with by law enforcement.
Attention 5th Grade Parents! Students are bringing home Schoology parent access sheets today! By signing up for a Schoology parent account, you will be able to see your student's grades, assignments, and missing work at any time. Just a reminder that all fall sports teams will have pictures on Tuesday. We will begin after lunch and athletes need to bring their uniforms to school with them. Please bring your money and completed order form.
📖WCMS will have a book fair Sept. 16-20, 2024. Each grade will be assigned to shop one day that week and Friday will be a make-up day. The shopping schedule will be shared closer to the start of the book fair.

WCMS Students are bringing home LiveSchool parent access sheets today. We DO NOT need these papers signed and returned.
LiveSchool is the program we use to recognize positive behaviors by rewarding students with points as part of our PBIS initiative. Students can use these points to purchase passes for rewards. By signing up for a parent account, you can log in at any time to view your student's points and comments left by staff. You will also get a weekly summary email of your student's points. If you need assistance with signing up for a LiveSchool account, please contact WCMS by calling 304-275-3977.
7th and 8th Grade Families!
Students received their netbooks today! Here are a few important reminders:
🔋Students should charge their netbooks every night so they are fully charged and ready to use each morning. Students should bring their chargers with them in case their netbook needs charged during the day.
🎒 Students need to bring their netbooks to school every day!
💼 Netbooks should be left in their cases any time the student is not using them.
🏫 Student devices should ONLY be used for school purposes.
Students who did not pick up their netbook today because they were absent will get it as soon as they come back!

🎉WCMS had a fantastic first day of school! If your student did not attend the open house, they received a folder with forms to sign today. Please return these forms promptly so we can ensure we have the correct information on file for your student.
The blue Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) form must be signed before students can use computers at school. The grade that returns all of their AUP forms first will win an ice cream party🍨!

We are excited to meet our new families and welcome back returning students, parents, and guardians during the Wirt County Middle School Open House. Stop by anytime between 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. to tour your student's classroom, meet school staff, and get all of your questions answered. We will see you there!

There will be an informational meeting for any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader interested in playing golf for WCMS on Monday, July 29 at 5 PM. Please meet under the shelter at Mingo Bottom Golf Course.
