WCMS Student Shoutout! We want to recognize our 41 students with perfect attendance during the 1st nine weeks! Congratulations! These students will receive a "Fast Pass" during Fall Fest, allowing them to skip to the front of the line at any station!

We want to thank West Virginia’s STEAM Technical Assistance Center for visiting Ms. Carper’s 7th-grade science classes yesterday! Students participated in the Projectile Launcher immersion, which demonstrates how projectile motion relates to sports and other parts of everyday life, helping students connect potential and kinetic energy to the muscles in their bodies. Students built launchers and saw projectile motion in action as they worked together, testing and adjusting their projects until the ball successfully made it through the field goal!

Don't forget sign out guidelines for Homecoming tomorrow at WCMS!
* As always, parents are permitted to sign their own child out at any time.
* Students must have a note if they are going to be signed out by someone other than a parent or guardian.
* Clubs, groups, and teams signing out large groups of students need to do so between 12:00PM and 1:30 PM. Students will not be permitted to be signed out to be in the parade with a group before noon. We will have a table set up outside to make the sign out process more efficient.
* Students are not to be signed back in after the parade. Arrangements need to be made to get your child home if they are signed out by a coach or group leader for the parade unless it is one of our school affiliated teams with a board employed coach.
* All students left in the building will be leaving WCMS at 1:30 to walk up to watch the parade.
* If you wish to sign your child out of school at the parade, you must do so with Mrs. Hickman. She will have the sign out sheet.
* It is imperative that all bus notes be called in before noon on Friday. We need to be able to properly track where are students need to go on this day.
* If your child will be watching the parade with us, please feel free to send a bag for them to collect candy. Our students typically receive a lot of candy at the homecoming parade.
Tomorrow is going to be a great day! We are happy to be able to participate in this fun day with our students! If you have any questions, please call the school at 304-275-3977.

Happy School Service Personnel Appreciation Day!
We are incredibly thankful for the cooks, custodians, bus drivers, maintenance workers, secretaries, technology staff, and aides who ensure our students are set up for success in a safe and welcoming environment every day. Our school thrives because of the hard work these individuals do, often behind the scenes. Today, we celebrate you!

WCMS is seeking approved volunteers to help with activity set up and stations during our Fall Fest on Friday, November 1st. If you are interested in helping, please email callie.daugherty@k12.wv.us by October 1st!

A few reminders from Wirt County Middle School:
1. Our first dance is Friday. All permission forms are due back tomorrow with the $2 admission.
2. All bus notes need to be called in before NOON.
3. If you drop your students off in the mornings, please drop them off in the gravel lot or out back between 7:30 and 7:45. If you are later than 7:45, they must enter the front door. Class starts promptly at 7:50. Please do not have your students cut through the primary school as they are being counted absent when they are late and not signing in at the office.
4. The book fair is continuing through this week. If students wish to shop, please send money with them to school. 6th graders will shop Wednesday, 5th graders on Thursday, and anyone can shop on Friday. (7th and 8th graders shopped yesterday and today.)
5. Midterms will be mailed home tomorrow for all students who have a D or F in a class. Please have your child log on Schoology if you would like to see their grades!
6. Just a reminder that MIDDLE SCHOOL students get in free to MIDDLE SCHOOL events. Other students must pay admission.
7. Yes, there is a new statewide attendance policy and yes, we will be following it. We are hoping to post more information soon but it will line up exactly with the high school and primary center.
If you have questions, please do not comment on Facebook. We do not regularly check this page for comments. As always, please call the school at 304-275-3977 if you have questions.

WCMS had our first pop-up reward yesterday for 5th grade students! We know 5th grade is a hard transition for many students and keeping up with new responsibilities can be challenging. We wanted to recognize our students who had received ZERO warnings all year and didn't have a D or F on their midterms. These students celebrated this achievement with cookies and some extra gym time! We have several other reward opportunities for students during the 1st nine weeks and look forward to celebrating more success!

WCMS is excited to announce that we will have a school dance on Friday, Sept 20th. Permission forms were sent home today! The $2.00 admission fee is due with permission slips must be turned in to the WCMS office by Wednesday, Sept. 18th at 8:00 a.m.
The dance is sponsored by our cheerleaders and will begin immediately after school and will end at 5:00 PM. All students staying for the dance must have signed permission by Wed Sept 18, 2024. Students will NOT be allowed to call home for permission the day of the dance.
Students staying for the dance are expected to exhibit school-appropriate behavior at all times or they may be asked to leave early and a parent will need to come get them at that time.
There will be concessions available for sale as well. Concession money needs to be kept by the student until dance time. All students must be picked up at 5:00 PM in our back parking lot. Students will be released at that time from our back doors.
